One of the reasons hypnosis is an effective weight loss aid is because it can address the emotional side of eating. Emotional eating appears to be a condition exclusive to humans (over a quarter of adults in the UK classed as obese¹). However, the majority of other species on this planet when provided with readily available food eat what they want, when they want it, and do not suffer from obesity. (Yes some pets are overweight, but who feeds them?)
Humans, like other animals, have an inbuilt mechanism that tells us when we’re hungry and when we are full up. If you eat for reasons other than survival and to satisfy your body, you will put on excess weight and fat. The difference is emotional eating. Many people suffer from uncontrollable appetites because of problems with “emotional eating”, for example, some people overeat for comfort, protection or simply through boredom or habit.
Emotional eating bypasses our natural ‘stop-full-up’ signals and causes us to overeat. Two problems occur with this. Firstly that extra satisfaction gained from overeating ends up on your stomach, thighs, arms or anywhere else on your body. Not only is it unsightly, but it’s uncomfortable and unhealthy. Secondly, the very reasons why you eat that ‘extra’ food still go unresolved. No matter how much you eat, they will still be there. For example, you eat a packet of biscuits because you’re bored at home. Once they’ve been wolfed down, which doesn’t take very long if you’re a typical fast eater, you’re still bored and looking for entertainment.
Breaking free from emotional eating
Hypnosis works so brilliantly for weight loss because it retrains you to eat for your body, not for emotional satisfaction. The inner mind may have a deep rooted need for ‘extra satisfaction’ from food created by an emotional past event, often in childhood. That past event, which on the surface may seem insignificant, creates the ‘mind virus’ that signals to overeat even when the body is satisfied. Many people can identify with being given sweets as a child for ‘good behaviour’, or perhaps to keep them quiet. The mind links these feelings, often with particular foods, such as sweets, chocolates or crisps, and the pattern is set. Later on when wanting to recreate these good feeling, the mind gives the signal to eat those particular foods in the hope of satisfying an emotional need.
Advanced weight loss hypnosis is the most successful hypnotherapy technique available on the market. It works in two key stages. The first is working with the inner mind to find the root cause of the overeating. Once that has been found, understood and dealt with, a new, more appropriate attitude towards food can be established with weight loss hypnosis. A course of advanced hypnotherapy weight loss can take as little as 4-5 sessions to change a lifetime of poor eating habits. With hypnosis, weight loss can be easily achieved without feeling the deprivation associated with a traditional ‘diet’, helping create a naturally slim persons’ mindset to help you not only lose weight, but keep it off for good.
